Moms Helping Moms
Moms throughout the world share a central value- supporting and caring for their family. Sometimes amidst the chaos in our own lives we forget that mothers in other countries need more help than we do. Just putting food on the table can be a challenge for mothers in Njabini, Africa, where opportunities to earn money are scarce. If you want to help Moms from these other cultures, here’s one way you could make a difference.
Meet Njabini Apparel: a non-profit organization started and run by college students to empower Kenyan mothers through employment and business training. While much of the economy in central Kenya relies on farm land, handicapped mothers cannot participate and struggle to find any income at all. Njabini Apparel employs those women, who hand-craft beautiful products from local materials, so they can afford to take care of their families. With the help of product sales in the U.S., the Njabini Moms earn more than double the national average income!
The products made by the Njabini mothers each have a unique, homemade feel. Check out the recently released spring/summer collection featuring amazing tote bags, jewelry, headbands, and more. You will find a variety of colors and patterns for any style or occasion. These items are shipped directly from the working mothers to America so they are absolutely authentic.
By supporting this social business, your money will go directly to helping Moms and families in Njabini, Africa. The company donates 50% of profits to the mothers to educate, feed, and clothe their children, while another 20% goes to a partner non-profit group, Flying Kites Global, which operates a childrens home and school in Njabini. The remainder is invested into raw materials, rent for the workshop, and expanding the operations of this organization.
