For the first three months of my daughter's life, she cried so much that I felt completely exhausted, forlorn, and exasperated. My pediatrician assured me, "It's just colic. It will pass." But not apparently before I thought that I might pass out! We tried soothing baths, long car rides aimlessly around the neighborhood, swaddling, lying her on top of the dryer as I held her steady to feel the vibrations. And everything worked for about 12 minutes.

As I am sure you are nodding your head in agreement with me, finding a great babysitter can be a tremendous challenge. You want someone competent, caring, and compatible with your family – but it can be hard to discern these qualities from an interview alone. Asking the right questions can help you find a fabulous nanny or sitter who will be with you for years to come.

You're reluctant to wean your child off a source of pleasure and comfort, but you know he can't hold onto that pacifier forever. In order to wean your child effectively, it is important to start early and approach it in a way that works for your child, providing a substitute, offering rewards, or sometimes just tricking him!

How much clothing to buy really depends on how often you plan to do laundry. For a newborn, buy enough clothing to cover three clothing changes a day times the number of days you want to go between loads of laundry.

Look for clothing made out of soft, roomy, durable material. Soft knits stretch more and can be changed more easily, and loose material fits best over your baby's big belly.
