When I was pregnant with my now 1 year old daughter, we were searching for names and my husband and I thought of the name Liberty Hope. So when we told my Mother-in-Law about this, she laughed and said well, i will just call her Libby. So now I have never heard her call her my daughter Liberty. Always Libby. It really really bothers me. My husband says he just writes it off as ignorance. But please, Liberty is my daughters name. Not Libby. Am I making a big deal of nothing? Should I just over look this? It is hard. I am very proud to call my daughter Liberty. I think it is a beautiful name. Any advice from the Moms out there? Thanks!

I would be a upset as well...but when it comes to anyone (Mother-in-laws especially) you have to pick your battles. Maybe when your daughter gets older she will correct your mother-in-law herself or maybe she will feel like it's a special name between her & her grandmother. It may drive you nuts....but it may make her feel very special. I would figure out how much of a problem it will cause if you push the issue with your mother-in-law to call her Liberty and if it's really worth it.

When my husband told his father Bayleighs name it was over the phone and he thought he said Haley and my FIL was ohh io really like Hayley then Mike was no Bayleigh and he was ohh thats cute. For awhile they called her Bailey

I had my husbands family not my MIL or FIL but a grandma trying to call my son Jack..Jacky. I told him his name is Jack and he's a boy.Not Jacky and he's not girl. Need less to say she has never said that again.

My daughters name is Brooklyn a lot of people try to call her Brook or Brookie I am constantly correcting them. I would say if you dont see her often It's not a big deal. But if she is close and your child sees her often I would ask her to call her Liberty. ( A beautiful name by the way
