Celebrating the End of the School Year

On the last day of school, take your child out for a special outing, even if it means taking off of work early. Think of something unusual, like going out for banana splits with every topping imaginable, or for "High Tea" at one of the hotels in a town near you.

Buy a gift for your child that highlights accomplishments unique to this year. After my daughter's last year of preschool, I gave her a charm bracelet. Each year, I buy a new surprise charm for the end year. This year, she has become a real reader, so (sshhh--still a secret) a book charm will be added. Last year was a palette for all her great artwork in first grade. For boys, consider a trophy or a pendant to hang on their wall. Or a gift to use outdoors, like a new soccer ball or toys for the pool. Anything that captures the celebratory spirit and shares your pride in your child having another year at school well done.
