In the not-too-distant past, families slowed down and welcomed a relaxed routine during summer vacation months. In today’s fast-paced world, we Moms need to stay connected and prepared for anything regardless of the time of year.
As the weather heats up, keep up with your growing to-do list of activities, camps, graduations, holidays and more by planning ahead. Read some of my favorite tips on how to juggle family life while still leaving time to wind down during the summer months:

Not so long ago, parents focused their energy on guiding teens toward a successful lift-off into adulthood – a recognized formula that included college graduation, a job in their chosen field, and a place of their own. Today all that’s changed, as parents discover that a college degree no longer guarantees independence – but can actually mean ongoing dependence. More and more “boomerang generation kids” head straight back home after graduation … still looking for just the right job, unable to find an affordable apartment, and considering grad school as a fallback.
College Grads Still Find Themselves Facing a Tough Job Market
As the economy limps toward signs of a recovery, the job market remains tough – particularly for young adults looking for that hard-to-find first job. With so many Americans out-of-work and willing to settle for entry-level positions, today’s recent college grads find themselves edged out by more experienced workers.

A time of excitement and joy, impending Motherhood also raises daunting uncertainty. New Moms-to-be often find themselves on the receiving end of a deluge of advice from family to friends and even co-workers. If this unsolicited and even conflicting advice leaves you more concerned than confident about what’s to come, give yourself a breather and take a look at The Other Baby Book, a non-judgmental and honest take on parenting.
Written by Megan McGrory Massaro, a freelance writer, and Miriam Katz, a professional life coach, The Other Baby Book cuts through messaging from popular culture and mass media to help guide Moms toward a simpler relationship with their babies. No topic is off limits for McGrory Massaro and Katz, who offer their readers candid information on topics ranging from birth to feeding and even pottying and self-care for Moms. In addition to their own research, the authors also share contributions from leading baby care practitioners including Dr. James McKenna, Dr. Janet Zand, Naomi Aldort and many more.

Sending kids to school with lunch boxes packed full of healthy snacks presents quite the challenge for many Moms and Dads. Not only do most all-natural and organic foods come in bulk, but these items also lack the junk food brand packaging appeal that kids crave at the lunch table. Faced with these challenges, along with the desire to live in an eco-friendly manner while avoiding harmful chemicals, two Moms teamed up to bring four crazy cute monsters to life.
These monsters – Sammy, Scout, Bailey, and Dusty – adorn the outside of Wexy lunch and munch snack bags. The BPA-free and biodegradable bags offer an easy way for Moms to send kids to school with fresh fruits and vegetables, organic snacks, and gluten-free goodies. Packaged up in bags decorated with their favorite little monsters, healthy snacks take on an entirely new and exciting identity.

A Reason to Tremble by Bob Mustin tells a chilling story of the Shane family, who is determined to bring justice to the hit and run driver that killed their ten-year-old daughter Emily one fateful night in their fictional town of Hope, Georgia. Unsatisfied with police performance, the Shane family takes the investigation into their own hands, eventually exposing secrets that even the police have not uncovered.
When Emily’s father Pat gets thrown into jail for interfering with a capital case, her uncle Jason, a Vietnam War veteran, grudgingly takes over. Jason, already burdened with fighting his own post-traumatic battles, gets confronted with even more struggles, leaving both the Shane family and town of Hope with untied emotional loose ends.

Come and enjoy a unique mix of indie rock and kid’s music put on by Karen Kalafatas and her band, the Jitterbugs, at the Regent Theatre on Satuday, March 10th! Karen recently relocated to the Greater-Boston area and hopes to bring her fun, high energy retro music designed for newborns to five year olds to the area. Karen and her band work to create music for both families and children to enjoy and not only put on concerts drawing crowds of 400 plus people, but also teach classes focusing on vocal play, rhythm training, instrument exploration, and games.
The Jitterbugs recently released their debut album Pancakes for Dinner and were named a “Critics Pick” in Time Out New York Kids and in New York Magazine. While they work on their second album, they plan to perform at a number of locations in the Boston area this summer.
