AnnieWomen who are successful, financially independent and headstrong are no stranger to Hollywood. In fact, many of them call La La Land their home and are intent on starting families as they settle into their movie star lives. And for many of them, having no man in sight is not a deterrent.

Calista Flockhart, Jodie Foster, Angelina Jolie, and Meg Ryan have all become mothers Sans Man. Each starlet has taken on the rewarding and wonderful task of adopting a child out of wedlock. An incredibly daunting concept for a single woman but, the limelight of celebrity has shown these women to be a success at becoming single moms and in doing so, shed some light on the possibility for non-celebrity moms, too.

Sheryl Crow recently talked about her break-up with Lance Armstrong and her desire to become a mom. Sheryl said that she is not going to wait for a man or marriage before she has kids - she loves children and wants some of her own and she realizes that in order to make that dream come true, she can no longer hold out for a man to share it with her.

Both Meg Ryan and Angelina Jolie divorced their fellow movie star husbands (Dennis Quaid and Billy Bob Thornton, respectively) and then went on to adopt. Meg has a daughter Daisy True, born in China, while Angelina was proud mama of Maddox long before Brad entered the picture.

Those in committed relationships are also apt to adopt - Madonna recently reported that she and husband Guy Ritchie are planning to adopt their next child (the couple have a daughter and a son) and back when Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey were still together, Jessica talked openly about wanting to adopt after visiting an orphanage for a charity event.

Jamie Lee Curtis is another adoptive mom who I so love - remember her More magazine spread where she stripped down to her skivvies, without airbrushing or any fancy photo shoot techniques, revealing that Hello! she's a real woman like the rest of us, cellulite and jiggly arms intact! Jamie and her husband, writer Christopher Guest, have adopted two children together, Annie, 15 and Tom, now six. Annie calls her mother "the coolest mum in Hollywood."

Whatever the motivation, it is incredible to see these women use their success and financial stability to provide beautiful lives for children who, without the generosity of these mom-hopefuls, would not be able to share the love.
