For Dad’s, sometimes parenting can be like walking through a very dark hallway with no light in site. Although new Moms’ have hundreds of guides, speaking their language, at their disposal, there are very few books helping new Dads tackle the challenges of their first years of fatherhood. Well now, Elisha Cooper has developed a great, honest, funny account of a father’s first year of diapers, bottles, playgrounds, and falling in love with the that little one.
Elisha Cooper has lent his endearing voice to Dads everywhere in his short and sweet new paperback edition of Crawling. Writer and illustrator of over a dozen children's books, he gives a voice to a new culture of Dads. In good humor, he also addresses the stereotype of the new bumbling father and the sometimes imposing veteran moms, who are quick to point that your holding the baby wrong.
It’s true, roles and expectations of new Dads these days can be vague. But in reading Crawling I found myself nodding with a knowing smile throughout, thinking of my own husband’s first year of parenthood. Any new parent—mom or dad—can identify with his experiences of checking the crib to see if his little Zöe is still breathing, the absence he feels as she gets too big to be carried against his chest in the Baby Bjorn, and the ever-frustrating negotiations with her as he introduces the dreaded bottle in the absence of Mommy.
Elisha Cooper’s candid take on a father’s first year will melt your heart and make you laugh, as you realize that Moms aren’t the only ones who, after their husbands leave the house, change baby out of the horrendous outfit Dad dressed her in.
