What to Expect When You’re Expecting…the Movie!
Star-studded movies typically garner much attention not for the plot of the movie but for the caliber of celebrity throughout the film. However, some come along that draw you in to each character’s storyline and leave you feeling each one’s emotions.
In What to Expect When You’re Expecting, based on the book by Heidi Murkoff, I found myself relating to each character’s struggles or finding the humor in each situation from the woman who hardly gained any extra baby weight besides her belly to the woman who feels uncomfortable throughout her entire pregnancy, no matter how much she wants to feel the “glow.” I rooted for each woman as she experienced her journey to motherhood and especially liked that one storyline included Jennifer Lopez’s character who could not have children but decided to adopt.
While this movie certainly relates to the trials and tribulations of becoming a mother (as well as the joys), the men in their lives also had a prominent place. The Dads formed a walking group to provide each other with support and insight and even took dads-to-be under their wing as they prepared for fatherhood. The Dads certainly provided the comedic entertainment and helped me understand what couples go through when preparing for a baby.
Overall, the movie surprised me by delivering a much funnier performance than I expected (pun intended!). The movie came out this weekend so make sure you go check it out, especially for a fun night out with the girlfriends!
And, in conjunction with seeing this movie, Dry Bar at Le Parker Meridian put on a relaxing afternoon as several of us received a blow-out as a follow-up to our evening at the movies.
Disclosure: Allison Parker is a Senior Client Strategist at Mom Central Consulting and received a free screening of the movie to facilitate this review.
