I have a confession to make. I am slightly obsessed with catalogs. I know, I know…who shops through catalogs any more? Well, here I am, raising my hand!   Every night I pick a catalog or two to look through before bed. This helps me wind down because I don’t have to read too many words or process a story line -  all I have to do is look at pretty pictures. Every few months when a new Land of Nod catalog arrives in my mailbox, I find myself heading up to bed a few minutes earlier than usual just to get a head-start looking at all of the wonderful and whimsical items! From toys to children’s decor to books and crafts—Land of Nod has the most unique and well-curated selection of children’s items I have come across.   Land of Nod’s ingenious storage solutions top my shortlist of favorite items. Sturdy, affordable and cute enough to keep out in the open—they have baskets, bins and boxes to fit any storage dilemma.
A time of excitement and joy, impending Motherhood also raises daunting uncertainty. New Moms-to-be often find themselves on the receiving end of a deluge of advice from family to friends and even co-workers. If this unsolicited and even conflicting advice leaves you more concerned than confident about what’s to come, give yourself a breather and take a look at The Other Baby Book, a non-judgmental and honest take on parenting. Written by Megan McGrory Massaro, a freelance writer, and Miriam Katz, a professional life coach, The Other Baby Book cuts through messaging from popular culture and mass media to help guide Moms toward a simpler relationship with their babies. No topic is off limits for McGrory Massaro and Katz, who offer their readers candid information on topics ranging from birth to feeding and even pottying and self-care for Moms. In addition to their own research, the authors also share contributions from leading baby care practitioners including Dr. James McKenna, Dr. Janet Zand, Naomi Aldort and many more.

Finding stylish and flattering clothes remains a constant battle for new Moms and Moms to be. I know I had limited options when shopping around for maternity duds during my last pregnancy. I wish I had known about the new Molly Ades Maternity collection, which focuses on providing Moms with both flattering and comfortable clothing for their changing bodies during pregnancy, nursing, and the months following. From the aptly named Preggings, to adorably stylish dresses, this is one line an expecting mama should check out.
Moms know it can be difficult to get a little one to sleep – particularly when you feel like the exhausted one.  You struggle to stay awake while coaxing your baby to sleep.  If this sounds familiar, Baby Einstein may have the solution you need.   The Sea Dreams Soother features soft lights and sounds that will ease your child to sleep.  Choose classic melodies or ocean sounds and turn the moving ocean scenery on or off to find your ideal setting.  Your baby can fall asleep peacefully after a few minutes watching the colorful ocean scene with low background noise.
Traveling with a baby can be quite a feat when you consider all the necessities: diapers, bottles, food, blankets, toys, and more.  Whether going on a vacation or just a trip to the mall, Moms need lots of extra baggage when they bring their child.  Now, you don’t have to let a heavy stroller add to your worries when you load up the car for your next trip. The Baby Cargo Stroller (200 series) offers an ultra-lightweight solution that easily folds to fit in your car or on an airplane.  It includes a shoulder strap and handle for convenient carrying when you have other things to lug around as well.    Your child will enjoy riding in this soft cotton seat with a 5-point safety belt.  Don’t worry Mom, the cotton material provides easy clean up, regardless of how often.  The backrest also offers adjustable positioning from sitting up right to reclining for a nap.

Like many nursing Moms, I used a breast pump to allow others (ie: my husband!) to contribute to the feeding experience by giving our babies a bottle. Although I have not nursed in over a year, I distinctly remember how challenging it could be at times to multi-task while pumping, as I tried my best to use that precious alone time to my advantage to catch up on reading or computer work. I never invested in an appropriate nursing bra, and as a result, always found this task to be a big point of tension as I struggled to secure and balance the pump.   I also never found these nursing bras to be very comfortable or flattering. I’ll be honest, when I was in the privacy of my own home (with no one else around) I would not worry too much about what I was (or wasn’t) wearing! But when I found myself out of the house for extended periods of time without my baby, I needed to make sure I wore something that would allow me to easily get into “pump mode”, but at the same time look somewhat presentable under my regular clothes.
Kalencom diaper bag

I’d never heard of Kalencom until I received an email about the new fall line of diaper bags. Hmm, my old diaper bag was “well-loved,” so I decided to click on the link for a preview. What creative and unique designs! Kalencom agreed to send me a sample to try out. When I opened the Laminated Buckle Bag in the O’Floral design, I was struck by the bold pattern and shiny fabric – this means waterproof! A magnetic clip keeps the top flap closed and the laminated outer layer really does make clean-up a snap. It has very roomy interior with pockets. Perfect for my pouch purees, and two outside pockets for my wallet and phone. My bag also came with a matching Thinsulate insulated bottle bag and coordinating zippered pouch. The fold-out padded changing pad is a great size for my squirmy toddler. which is helpful when changing diapers on the go.

I’m sure I’ve mentioned this before, but I am a little obsessed with Target. I’m there at least once a week for all of the things I “need” for around the home. Yes, I really did need those plum argyle tights last week. All kidding aside, I am constantly impressed by the quality brands offered at Target including one of my favorite toy brands, B. Toys. I’m a HUGE fan of the whimsical and creative play items. Not only are these toys pleasing to look at, but I love that the packaging is made from recycled materials and is even reusable around the house. Double bonus! I’ve actually used one of the boxes to store the many pairs of glasses I’ll most likely lose if I don’t keep them in a particular place. All inks on the packaging are soy-based and even the clear plastic is completely recyclable.
pregnancy ultrasound
The age difference between my first and third son is six years, but that time span may as well be decades when it comes to technology. When pregnant with my first son, ultrasounds were available, but not necessarily standard. By the time my third son was born, 3D ultrasounds were just becoming the rage. Now they’re the standard. Thanks to technology, we can learn more than the sex of our babies before they are born. We can run tests for almost anything and I have a friend who’s baby had heart surgery – in utero. (I know! It was unbelievable to go through that with her.) With many women being older as they have their first child, technology plays a key role in these high-risk pregnancies. Technology is definitely changing what we know while pregnant and is a useful, valuable tool to ensure the health and safety of moms and babies.
