Do as I say, not as I do, I'm constantly telling my about to be 16 year old. She knows I'm always rushing, which occasionally means speeding or going through a yellow light, or maybe driving too close to the car in front of me. I've been doing this for years. I'm a good driver. Really. No accidents. But yet: now that Corey is about to start driving, I've had to reevaluate my behavior.

I realize I'm not setting a good example by going 40 in a 30 mph zone. Or by not fully stopping at a stop sign. And so, I'm trying. to be better by thinking that the car in front of me is a student driver. Or that Corey's in the car with me (even when she's not) so I'm more cautious. After all, if I don't mentor good driving habits, how will she learn? And more importantly, what "damage" have I already instilled? We'll find out next month when she starts her first driving test. I'll keep you posted...

My daughter will turn l6 next month and ALL she talks about is driving. How she can't wait to drive. Get a license. Get a car. Meanwhile, I'm inwardly cringing. I know it will happen (the getting a license; not getting a car quite yet)...but I can't quite imagine it. I'm nervous. Like so many moms out there, I worry about her focus. Her cell phone use and texting distractions. Her loud music.

Her attitude that she deserves to drive...and not carpool her little sister around. I know once upon a time I was just like her (minus the cell phone use)...and so it's that perspective: that we get through it (provided our parents provide rules), that we all learn (provided we have good instruction) and we all (gulp!) have the occasional fender bender that teaches us that driving is not a game or a toy, but a skill that, with practice, WILL work.

My husband and I have already decided that we will be drafting a parent-teenager agreement that prohibits night driving, teenager passengers, cell phones, and a certain amount of "community" service chauffeuring her sister and doing some of my errands. I'll keep you posted!

One thing about moms, is that we talk and we share.                            Feed Icon

When I put an inquiry out on Twitter asking about the best family cars/vans for a family of six, moms responded, and with a passion.  That’s the beauty with instant communication now-a-days.  You ask, you receive - in mere seconds.  Even though I felt as if I had found the “perfect” vehicle for us in the Ford Flex, after hearing some of my mom friends rave about their cars/vans, I felt that looking around would be a good option, just to make sure we were making the right decision.

In the market for a new ride?

By Audrey at Mom Generations

The time has come.  Car browsing/shopping time. My needs have changed since the last time I went looking for cars.

Momsdrive

Lots of angst surrounds people and their cars. And when you're a mom, who might actually spend the majority of your waking hours in a car, the issue gets bigger.
