Ode to my Starbucks reusable cold cup
I’ve been seeing them around town. You know, those Starbucks reusable iced coffee cups. I was curious. I mean, I love the Starbucks brand and carrying one of those around might boost my cool factor by 1%, but do they really work? I was determined to find out, there is nothing worse than a hot summer day turning your iced coffee into watery yuck.
So I shelled out the $12.95 at my local Starbucks for the grande size version and ordered an iced coffee. I was impressed by the vessel’s ability to keep my beverage cold. I had been double-cupping my iced coffee on especially hot days for insulation. I agree it was wasteful, which was why I was open to this alternative. It’s also been a great help in keeping me hydrated. I feel a little bit more sophisticated drinking my water with ice and a straw. While I love my stainless steel water bottle, I feel a little more, I don’t know, chic using this reusable cold cup.
But that’s not all. This cup is the latest innovation in what Starbucks calls The Green Project. Anyone can bring a reusable cup to Starbucks at anytime for a 10% discount on their beverage. Also, by visiting Starbucks.com, you can calculate your waste impact on the earth by making a pledge to reduce your own global impact. I calculated my own impact on the site, and found if I eliminated my one disposable cup per day, I could potentially save 114 trees over 50 years. So I guess I’ll hang on to this reusable cold cup for a while.
Here are a few other things I love about the cup:
- Keeps my beverage colder way longer than the disposable
- Doesn’t spill. I put this thing on my couch and knocked it over. Nothing.
- With the double-walled construction, the outside of the cup doesn’t “sweat.”
- My one-year old now asks for “Wahhh” (water) every time she sees the cup. I may have to buy one just for her.
Disclosure: I wrote this review purely because I love my new Starbucks reusable cold cup!
