Product review: Natural Value Unbleached Natural Waxed Paper Sandwich Bags

Wednesday, December 1, 2010 - 5:04pm

MomC Wax bags I covered a few options for making your lunch box greener but today I'd like to focus on one product in particular...waxed sandwich bags.

I purchased a box of 60 Natural Value Natural Waxed Paper Bags at Whole Foods a few months ago and have simply fallen in love with them. I use them mainly for dry snacks like chips and crackers and so I reuse them over and over which has made the box last.

Here's what I like about Natural Value Natural Waxed Paper Bags:

  • They are unbleached and safe for the microwave
  • They are non-toxic when incinerated, landfill safe, and won't contaminate ground water
  • They are large enough for sandwiches made with larger slices of bread
  • They keep both veggies and dry snacks fresh
  • They cost about $3 for a box of 60

Here are some tips for using Natural Value Natural Waxed Paper Bags:

  • Ditch the plastic baggies and use these as a safe, non-toxic and landfill-friendly alternative
  • If you use them for chips and snacks, have the kids bring them back home in their lunchbox to be used again
  • Use them to reheat foods like muffins, cookies and rolls
  • Wrap cucumber and carrot sticks in one before placing into reusable sandwich container to keep the sandwich from getting soggy
  • Keep some in the car, the boat or in our purse if the kids get car, air, or seasick
  • Bring them to the beach to collect shells and sea glass, or to protect sunglasses and your cell phone

Have you tried waxed paper bags or have you switched to using more waxed paper instead of plastic bags and plastic wrap?

Disclosure: I purchased the Natural Value Natural Waxed Paper Bags myself. All opinions expressed here are my own and this post was neither reviewed nor approved by Natural Value prior to publishing.
