Using online tools to record milestones

baby and book

Now, who is with me here? When you have the first baby, you are all about recording every milestone, every second of the day in the child's baby book. Once your second, third, fourth, and etc baby arrives, the baby book is on the shelf collecting dust unfortunately.

This is one main reason, I started my personal blog when my second child was just one year young. I tried so hard to remember to record all her events, but there was just not much recording going on in the baby book. Instead, I would blog online though about her milestones as she reached them and eventually hope is my personal blog will be made into a hard bound book for the girls to have to cherish once they are grown.

Use online sites to design a baby book

  • Blurb.com - As noted on the site: "Blurb BookSmart® automatically slurps content from popular blogging platforms to a book layout."
  • Lulu.com - As noted on the site: "Ready to try self publishing? Simply upload your document, set your book's selling price, and just like that, you're a published author."
  • Blog 2 Print - As noted on the site: "Turn your blog into a professionally printed book."

If you would like to go one step further than a blog and do an online baby book, then BabyCenter's Milestones will help you achieve this. I really and truly wish this new feature of BabyCenter's was available when my girls were babies and toddlers. By using the milestone feature, you can go straight to the computer and enter the milestone as soon as it is accomplished. Once you enter the milestone, you are given the chance to share it via Facebook or email.

This is a terrific feature, especially if you have family all over the United States as we do. You do not even have to remember to email everyone separately since all family members are able to celebrate the  milestone with you as soon as you enter it into your Milestone's account via the email option. It is so easy to get started and you are given the option to make your Milestone's either public or private. BabyCenter has already went one step further as well and added in milestones for you to select when entering a new milestone, or you can create a custom milestone to enter. It does not get any simpler than this now moms and dads.

So what are you waiting for? Put all those excuses you have been using out the window and start recording. Your children will be so thankful for this when they are older!

re: Using online tools to record milestones

Great tips. I've always loved Blurb for all different kinds of book making. I've recently been doing quarterly and special event (holidays/vacations) photo books as well with various services (read: it depends on who has a coupon code at any given time).
