To-do list #45: Get nails done. Rarely can I make it that far down the list during a busy week. Although I would love to head to the salon for a relaxing manicure, sometimes I just don’t have the time.

Sally Hansen makes Salon Effects, real nail polish strips that harden immediately onto nails and do not require any drying time. They come in 40 different solid colors and fun designs, including bright patterns, tie-dye, and even sparkles. They also last about as long as a normal manicure and have the texture of regular nail polish when applied.

The kit comes with nail strips in 16 different sizes to help find a good fit for each nail, a cuticle stick, and a mini file and buffer. The strips prove tricky and tedious to apply on the first use, but the process becomes much easier and faster with practice. To apply, you peel off the strip of the right size, press it to the nail, and shape the top to fit. The strips also remove easily with nail polish remover when you want to take them off.

Every time I look down at my fun nails, it makes me smile. I get lots of compliments on these nail designs and people ask me “how did you do that?” I wish I could say I am an expert nail design artist, but it’s in the strips.
