Mom_cleaningHolidays can be a great time to spend with the people you love, but it is also another stress if they all come to stay with you. Cleaning our homes seems to fall at the bottom of our lists, but welcome to the brave new possibilities of cleaning our homes for the holidays.

First off, I have to say, I am one of those Moms enamored with Swiffer, 60-second is about all the time I am able to dedicate a day to the trodden, food-strewn, and mysterious stained kitchen tile. Phew! Just thinking about my mom running around the house with her mop and bucket makes me tired. This is why the Swiffer Wet Jet and floor sweeper stand as sentinels at the ready in the kitchen pantry closet.

But there’s now more short cuts...so much for the dryer sheets actually being for our laundry on the dry cycle, there are now many more, inventive ways to put them to use while preparing for guests.

Stick a sheet of Bounce in the linen closet to help keep linens smelling fresh.  Or put a sheet in between the towels after the laundry so they will keep the towels smelling great for guests.
Place a Bounce sheet inside your toilet paper roll.  Each time it spins, a little freshness is released into the bathroom.
Put a sheet in the garbage can to tackle odors.
When vacuuming, add a sheet of Bounce in the vacuum cleaner bag.
Some more great tips to prepare for guests:

Keep several drawers empty in the guest bedroom to allow guests who are staying several days to unpack.
Keep empty hangers in the closet.
Put a selection of books or magazines and a radio or TV in the room.
To give your guests more independence during their stay, leave a local map and information about public transportation and simple directions to places they might want to visit without you.
If your guest will share your family’s bathroom, give her towels in a distinctive color to avoid mix-ups, and leave her space in the bathroom for her toiletries.
Stock up on easy-to-make meals to maximize time relaxing with your guest.
Here’s to a Happy (and stress free!) Holiday season for you and your family!
