Mom Central was invited to a media event to cover the opening of Legoland Discovery Center. All opinions are our own. My four-year-old is a girly girl. Something about the insistence of tutus, tiaras and impromptu renditions of Frozen’s “Let It Go” in the supermarket aisles makes me scratch my head and wonder how she got this way. So when we were invited to go check out the new Legoland Discovery Center in Somerville, MA, I worried she might be bored. Sure, we play with Legos at home, but only the pink ones.

Periodically, Mom Central poses five questions to individuals or organizations to gain insights, wisdom, and a better understanding of key issues facing today’s families. Recently, we checked in with Varda Epstein, Communications Writer and Blogger with Kars4Kids, on topics ranging from parenting to philanthropy to the importance of unconditional love. Here are her responses to our five questions: 1. Tell us about Kars4Kids — what's the mission? It’s all about leveling the playing field by providing the extra something that a child needs, but lacks for one reason or another. For example, a child may need homework help or a mentor. An inner-city child can receive a scholarship to attend a summer camp where opportunities abound: a chance to play sports never played before; an opportunity to learn, firsthand, where such foodstuffs as milk and eggs come from – firsthand attention he craves but may not be getting at home.
New Balance Girls’ Night Out!
Spending time with friends after work and other obligations is always something we want to make time for. Taking that time to catch up with my friends and loved ones not only helps me have fun and relax, but also helps me keep in touch despite our busy schedules. As great as it is to read updates on social media, it certainly doesn’t replace our time in person! Sometimes it’s a juggle to make time for fun after work, as one of the other ways I de-stress and keep up my fitness routine is through exercise. I’m a member of a gym and enjoy taking cardio dance, spinning, yoga and strength training classes. I love inviting friends to join me for these programs so that we can get our workout in, and then have a healthy dinner afterwards, but sometimes this poses a challenge, as not everyone is a member of the same fitness facility.
Providence, RI
Mom Central received complimentary lodging. All opinions expressed are our own. Even in the summer, every day seems busier than the last, and we rarely get the time to think about vacations, much less actually take them. So when the Convention and Visitors Bureau of Rhode Island invited Mom Central to come to Providence, I welcomed the break. The close proximity to Boston makes Providence an attractive getaway option. Without needing a car, you can get to Providence directly from Boston courtesy of the MBTA, arriving in a little over an hour. With amazing nightlife, delicious food, and activities for the entire family, my boyfriend and I experienced a weekend of pure fun and relaxation.
Until now, I was a blade guy. So when Panasonic sent me their Arc 5 wet/dry electronic shaver, it had to pass a couple of pre-requisites before I would even take it out of the box. Namely: -       The Arc 5 had to work in both wet and dry mode -       It had to give me at least a week of shaving without recharging -       The resulting shave had to make me look good – and that was a major challenge Out of the Box and Into the Shower So the first thing I did was charge up the Arc 5 and give it a test drive in the shower – could it replace the blade I use every morning?

Disclosure: SouvenarteBooks is a client of Mom Central Consulting. With schools on hiatus for the summer, Moms everywhere know they have a decision to make. Nestled at home amidst the worn-out backpack, battered trombone case, and nearly out-grown gym shoes lay a mound of construction paper, ceramic sculptures, and paper-mâché creations. A year’s worth of art projects represent so much to Moms – even more than the beauty of each individual piece. These collections showcase our kids’ creativity, their passions, and their cognitive and emotional development. We can page through everything from mixed media pieces to charcoal sketches to first writings and see how much they’ve grown and evolved by looking at what they created at the beginning of the year and what they produced by the end.

If/Then Soundtrack Featuring Idina Menzel
Mom Central received the If/Then Original Broadway Cast Album CD to facilitate this review. All opinions are our own. I’m an avid theater fan, and since I live in the NYC area, I try to see as many Broadway and Off-Broadway shows as possible. Last month, I was fortunate to see the new musical If/Then starring (as John Travolta would say) the “wickedly talented” Idina Menzel. Though many of us (especially the children!) recognize Idina from being the voice of Princess Elsa in Frozen, I’ve been a fan of Menzel’s since she starred in the Original Broadway Cast of Rent. She then went on to win a TONY Award for portraying Elphaba (the Wicked Witch) in Wicked, and was so excited to see her return to the Broadway stage after all these years.
