Pay no attention to those dark circles under my eyes, the slurred speech, the stumbling gait. I am dog tired because I’ve just spent the last 48 hours reading Interred With Their Bones, by Jennifer Lee Carrell.
Folks, take my advice and do not start this book unless you can keep reading it, because you will not be able to put it down.
Interred With Their Bones is based on an entirely true mystery: the whereabouts of a missing Shakespeare play. On top of that, a modern thriller: Someone is leaving murder victims in the ghastly poses of tragic figures from Shakespeare’s plays.
The components are familiar: a murder kicks off a series of clues and puzzles leading to an invaluable, missing relic that must be found for the good of humanity. If you’re thinking The DaVinci Code but with Shakespeare, you’re close to the mark. But thankfully, Carrell isn’t just a Shakespeare expert. She’s also a sharp and talented writer with a gift for pacing and suspense. This book will keep you flipping pages through the predawn hours, racing from continent to continent with the heroine and her supporting cast. Who can she trust? Will she find the missing play before the bad guys do? And who really wrote those plays, anyway?
Interred With Their Bones is a terrific debut novel that would make a great holiday gift for your favorite mystery fan.
