The Wonder Years
The Wonder Years is the new book from the American Academy of Pediatrics, which focuses on developmental stages and milestones in the first few years of a child’s life. The book outlines the developments a baby will achieve in movement, motor skills, sensory perceptions, mental stages, social and emotional states, and bladder control. With the insight of a pediatrician, the guide provides information about each of these stages, helpful tips related to each milestone, and activities for parents to help encourage that particular development.
While The Wonder Years cautions that the provided timelines for these behaviors are approximate, it allows parents the information necessary to be sure that their children are on the right track. The last two chapters, however, provide a summary of some common concerns in development, possible causes, and steps parents might take to address the problems. Overall, this is a very informative guide for parents navigating their way through the stages of early childhood development.
