When You’re About To Go Off the Deep End, Don’t Take Your Kids With You
A Step-By-Step Guide to Permanently Eliminate Chaos and Frustration in Your Home and Unleash the “Ultimate Mom” Within You
By Kelly E. Nault
Anyone who has ever spent time around children knows that kids can make life a little chaotic. Kelly Nault, in her book on parenting, addresses what to do when life, and parenting, begin to seem constantly overwhelming. She suggests that the “Super Mom” approach of doing everything for everyone can cause mothers to forget about caring for themselves, which is an important part of maintaining energy for the everyday hassles in life.
Instead she encourages women to create for themselves the concept of becoming an “Ultimate Mom,” the type of mother who can recognize that she is not capable of doing everything all of the time, but is not a bad mother or person because of it. The “Ultimate Mom” has several important aspects to her. One of which includes knowing that in order for her children to be well-behaved, they must feel included in and needed by the family. Instead of ruling with an iron fist or being a complete pushover, mom must teach her children responsibility and accountability, all while maintaining a gentle firmness.
Most importantly to be an “Ultimate Mom,” a mom must take time to make a separate life for herself, so that she can also feel like a refreshed, complete person. Nault has some great suggestions that can help busy moms to learn to relax, as well as control their children. From learning how to fall asleep more quickly at night, to helping dawdling children learn to be on time, her ideas are unique and experimental. However, while she gives great suggestions on how a mom should treat herself, she doesn’t explain how a busy mom can make the time to scrapbook or shop. Despite this, her creative ideas just might help keep moms everywhere from “going off the deep end”.
