She never tells me 8 Months, 1 Week ago Karma: 3
Since I started really hard core potty training back in February I have just been putting Lauren on the toilet every two hours. There have been a few times when I've forgotten to put her on the toilet and she will end up having an accident. She NEVER tells me when she has to go. The only time she tells me she has to go potty is when we are at a store, and I think that is only because she wants to see the public restroom for some reason.

Right now she very rarely has an accident because I am really on top of putting her on the toilet every two - three hours, but my question is should I just ask her if she has to go, and if she tells me no then let her have an accident to get the idea that she should tell me when she has to go? I wonder if she doesn't tell me when she has to go because I'm not really giving her the chance to. The few times I've forgotten she has had an accident.

What do you think?

When I started I let Ashley go naked so that when she started to pee she knew it & we would run to the potty, then we did just big girl pants & same thing...when she started she knew it & would run to the potty, I think it helped her learn what the feeling of "having to go" felt like. I never did the "take her to the potty every so often" technique because it just didn't work with her...she would fight me to go. Now she is really good at telling me she has to go...pee that is...poop is a whole other story. I would say let her go for longer than you normally do so she knows what the sensation of felling like you have to go is. Then maybe she will get the hang of it. Maybe you are taking her so often that she doesn't know how to tell she has to go, so she doesn't tell you.

Hope this sorta helps, I'm still struggling with this whole thing myself. Good Luck!!

The funny thing is the day after I posted this she told me two times when she had to go potty. I'm hoping she is finally learning, but she isn't consistent with it yet. I'm not giving up though. I haven't yet met a 12 year old who isn't potty trained.

That's great!! I hope she keeps it up. I am getting so frustrated myself with Ashley...she has got the pee thing down, but will not poop in the potty...I am at my wits end...but like you said very few 12yr olds still poop in their pants!
