spinvoxIt’s no surprise that text messaging is growing in popularity practically every day – anyone who has teenagers at home like I do can vouch for that. But it’s not just teens who text anymore; parents use text messages to connect with colleagues at work, young kids with cell phones stay in touch with their friends, and whole families communicate with each other. Which means, maybe not so surprisingly, that actual phone calls – and voicemails – are slowly becoming a thing of the past. Enter SpinVox, a new service in the U.S. (although already taking off overseas) that is in keeping with the times. This service converts voicemails into text, which can then be delivered to your phone or email and read, eliminating the need to interrupt conversations or meetings to get a voicemail or trying to jot down directions or a phone number on the go. And SpinVox is more than simple voice-to-text conversion. It combines voice recognition, artificial intelligence, and linguistics, and is even capable of learning over time. Even more exciting: SpinVox has teamed with MTV, Causes on Facebook, and Kelly Rowland in the “Stand By What You Say” campaign, helping to raise awareness about and break down the stigma surrounding HIV/AIDS.
