cloroxanddrlaundryAs the Thanksgiving holiday quickly approaches (and with a new array of stains expected at the end of the day), Mom Central has launched a contest in conjunction with Clorox's stain and laundry expert, Dr. Laundry (a.k.a., Harold Baker). We welcome tales of legendary stains from years past as well as the latest spills and burns this year's holiday is sure to create. And if you happen to have a camera close by as stains occur this year, snap a picture and send it our way by emailing Allison at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. Additionally, Clorox has put together an arsenal of laundry information that will be available online and by telephone 24/7 through the holiday season. Dr. Laundry has expanded his already thorough stain-and-laundry-advice blog, http://www.drlaundryblog.com, to include a new series of instructional videos. Additionally, Dr. Laundry’s popular Stain Hotline will also be making a reappearance this year. Baker created a hotline – 1-800-STAIN-411 –for advice and tips on the nine most common holiday stains.

Last year, my nephew spilled cranberry sauce on a tablecloth that belonged to my grandmother and has since been handed down. He tried to help by then scrubbing at the stain with a napkin, and of course my Mom walked in and caught him "cleaning." Not the smoothest way to start the holiday! Luckily my aunt is a genius with stains - this year, we'll barely be able to see it, and as an added bonus, the tablecloth now has a new story to tell :)

Imagine a almost two year old eating a chocolate dipped ice cream cone from Dairy Queen in the middle of July! This was definitely one of those "What were you thinking?" moments for me!LOL! Of course, my little man LOVED it, but it made the biggest, stickiest mess EVER! The chocolate stained his shirt, but luckily I was able to scrub the carseat cover clean....Yep, definitely learned my lesson from that one!LOL!

My dad is known for always getting something on his shirt when we go out to eat. Anything from spaghetti sauce splatterings to salad dressing oils to red wine ended up on his clothing. My mom finally learned to stop buying him so many white shirts after years of trying to get all the stains out! At least it's something we can all laugh about every time we go out!

My son was on soy formula the first few months of his life. Including Thanksgiving. He had reflux and stained everything everywhere we went! I am still working on removing stains and he is a year old already!

I always get something on myself whenever I eat. It never fails, I always hear the plop and look down and see a blob of something on my chest or lap. I can usually get the stains out by soaking them and them putting a stain spray on it. I have learned that some adults need bibs too. I am one of them and I am not ashamed!

Having kids, we always have messes. Always! DS is well known for wiping his mouth on his sleeve. It is hard finding anything to get those tough stains out, especially chili from his hot dogs. After some 'doctoring', we finally got it out. Whew!

I wanted my niece, nephew and my daughter to try new foods. So I bought a pomegranate for them to try. I made sure they were all wearing their play clothes so they wouldn't get their clothing dirty. As soon as I cut into the pomegranate and started peeling back the skin- the pomegranate slipped out of my hands and crashed onto the table. I was covered in pomegranate juice! There goes my light blue t-shirt The lesson I learned is- next time I need to make sure to not only make sure the kids are wearing play clothing but myself as well!

I was only married for a few months when the biggest stain of my life happened. I was doing my husbands laundry for work. He is a pilot and wears white shirts. Well after the wash cycle was finished I went to put the shirts in the drier and realized that I washed his shirts with an ink pen....what a mess. Thank goodness with all my years of catholic school and wearing a uniform. My grandmother taught me a trick to use hair spray to get ink out. This was a real mess and almost half a can of hairspray later all the ink came out. I then washed all the shirts again and they came out crisp and white. I never even told my husband that story

Last Thanksgiving, my then 2 year old decided that he didn't like the color of the wine so he proceeded to dump entire bottle of wine on the tablecloth while we were getting the food ready in the other room. To say the least, this year, we will wait to open the wine until someone is in the dining room!!

My son gets a lot of stains on his clothes, as does my husband (okay, I confess, I do too). The toughest stain that I had to try to power out was white paint from a wall that my son leaned against with his new jeans and sweater on. I have never met an easy stain to remove, so need all the help I can get.
20"Drat that fruit"
at Monday, 17 November 2008 10:29by mannequin
My son is a very picky eater so when I found the pomegranate, I was thrilled! It's the one fruit he will eat with no arguing. And all the healthful benefits of this fruit!
I do not like this fruit however. Actually, I cannot stand this fruit.
The pomegranate and I have issues. I have gotten much better about preparing the fruit but there is no easy way!
All over the counters, all over the floor, all over my hands, all over my apron.
APRON?? Yes.
My new fancy shmancy apron that I had waited ages to get. I got a little cocky with my pomegranate carving skills that Thanksgiving. I thought they would look lovely on the table; they look like miniature cranberries!
I was horrified and saddened. I tried to not let it ruin my Thanksgiving but it sure was hard.
I will never get cocky with a pomegranate again.
They win.

The first Thanksgiving after being newly married, I invited the whole extended family to dinner. My new mother-in-law was helping to carry the last of the fixings to the table. The last trip included me carrying the mashed potatoes and her the cranberry sauce. She went to sit down and place the cranberry sauce on the table, simultaneously and the chair broke. Well, as I am sure you can imagine, the new mother-in-law hit the floor and the cranberry sauce covered her white blouse. Luckily she wasnt hurt. She tried for weeks to get the stain out with no luck. I was mortified and embarassed then. We dont get along now, so I would live to see that moment again! LOL! (ok, just kidding about that part!)

I remember back when I used to wear dresses and my oldest just started walking. I had my favorite dress. It fit perfectly and I looked really good in it. I laid my dress on the bed to get ready for a get together at my future in laws. DH was suppposed to be watching our daughter but of course he wasn't. He gave her some red kool aid in a sippy cup that leaked. She had at least 4 sippy cups so I don't know how he picked that one. Anyways, I ran to the bathroom and when I came back in the room she had dripped kool aid all over my dress!! It was like all these drops. Of course had a big kool aid smile on her face while her dad was in the other room playing video games. I just knew the dress was ruined I mean it was red kool aid! Of course I was mad at my hubby the rest of the evening but he surprised me the next morning by washing it and got the stains outs. So I am proof Clorox works!

A couple months ago I was doing a load of whites. Once they came out of the dryer, I noticed an ink pen that my darling son decided to drop into the laundry while he was helping me put the soap in. I didn't notice and then was left with white clothes and blue polka dots. Ink is probably the only thing that my stain removers can not get out completely. However, MY mother came to the rescue and told me to use aerosol hairspray. My family's once blue spotted white clothes are now as good as new.

I spilled curry paste (with turmeric and oil in it) over the carpet. There was this yucky oily yellow colored stain all over....I tried a few things but finally what worked was 'Toothpaste'. Plain old fluoride toothpaste (not the gel kind). Rub some over the stained area, let it sit for some time...scrub and clean with a clean cloth and water.

Try it...it works! :)

The worst stain I ever had happened towards the end of my pregnancy. My husband and I were shopping for baby things and while we were in line to check out I saw him looking down at my chest and gave me and odd look.Little did I realize at the time why he did that.I ignored him and paid. When we got to the car he announced my boob was leaking!Sure enough I looked down to my first experiance with soon to be breast milk. I just keep hoping no one else noticed.I couldn't get the mark out of my shirt though. So, it was stained to me...as well as embarassing.

Stains...everyone gets them! From grape juice, ketchup, coffee, soda to even blood. But the toughest for me is when my son gets grass stains on his clothes - especially when he wears whites or any kind of pants.
Anyone eat pomegranites? those produce some bad stains, even stains your fingers! Its just as bad as cranberries.

The worst stain that I ever got on was when I was making brownies. I was mixing the brownie mix in this big bowl when it slipped out of my hands and All Over Me! It landed all on my white sweat pants. These were my new favorite things to wear-great to throw on at home-nice and comfy. Well, I thought there was no getting this stain out for sure!
I couldn't believe my eyes when it actually did come out! I had to wash them in Hot water at least three times, but thanks to Tide and Bleach, there isn't a trace of a chocolate stain on them!

My stain story happened this past August. It was my son's first birthday and I made him cupcakes, but I used blue icing. Not thinking to take his clothes off and just have him in his diaper when he got his cupcake, I left them on. The blue icing ended up staining the cutest outfit he had at the time and then it stained my shirt when I picked him up to take him to the bathroom and give him a bath! Next time, I'll know to just use plain white icing!

I found breastmilk spitup to be quite challenging stain to remove. My tip is to soak the stained clothing in COLD water for a couple hours (preferably) immediately after the spitup. Then use Clorox coldwater bleach to eliminate the stain without discoloring the material. It's been working great for me.

I went to get a load of whites out of the dryer when they finished. There was blue everywhere! On our white underclothes and even the dryer tub itself! The culprit was a blue crayon that had inadvertently been in with the wash and melted when the dryer was running. I had to rewash things several times and some things I wasn't able to salvage at all. Thank goodness it was mostly underwear and socks! This was almost a year ago and we still have some blue underwear in our drawers! Getting the stain out of the dryer was quite a fun experience as well!
35"Immediately"
at Monday, 17 November 2008 10:49by millaa
Key word is immediately. If you get a stain that you know will be hard to get out, rinse it out with running water as soon as possible. I've found that peroxide helps get stains out as well. If it's bleachable, by all means apply a little bleach to the water as well. I'm a mommy of four and have had a lot of trial and error experiences with baby poop. I used to hate the stains it would leave behind, and it seemed like nothing worked like rinsing ASAP.

I bought my daughter a beautiful flaminco dancer dress for Halloween this year. It is white with red roses and trim. Well, we always have an easy dinner on Halloween so this year we ordered pizza. My daughter was dying to get into her costume as soon as she got home from school. When it was time for dinner she swore she would be careful. We even put a "bib" over her dress. Well the bib came off and she got greasy pizza grease all over the front of the bodice. Needless to say she went out with the big stain on the front of her. She didn't care, but I was glad her dad was the one taking her trick or treating. I would have felt embarrassed.

Last year, for my son's first Thanksgiving (he was just under a year old) he decided to get into the relish tray, which included pickled beets and black olives in juice. It was all over him (in a light colored outfit) and my parents tan carpet. Oh what that was! It took some time and lots of research but we were able to save the carpet and clothes! He is even more into things now that he is almost two! We are certainly taking the time this year to try to keep things up and to have a stain survival kit of our own made up!

When my husband and I first married he was a door to door salesman. Many a white shirt was ruined due to his sweat, my lack of knowledge of how to clean his shirts. I learned the hard way that bleach should never be used on a perspiration stain, especially on white cotton fabrics, as proteins in the sweat will react with the bleach and turn the stain even darker. Also avoid heat – such as ironing or putting a stained garment in the dryer – as the high temperatures will permanently set the stain, making it impossible to remove.
Treat with a mixture of 1 tbsp of vinegar in half a cup of water, sponged onto the stain, which should restore the color and also remove any perspiration odors. Another good stain remover is fresh lemon juice rubbed into the stain or an enzyme pre-soak product before washing as usual – whatever you do, do not use this on fabrics such as linen, silk and wool

Being a nurse, I have to wear white to work. Needless to say, it is very hard to keep my uniform looking its bes while taking care of patients and three children at home. However, the worst stain that I have had comes from a different source. There was a problem with the water in our town, and the city had workers repairing the problems. As a result, our water temporarily had a large concentration of iron, which stained my pristine white uniform a dirty, reddish color. It had been washed and dried, so I didn't think it would ever come clean. It sat around in a laundry basket for a few days. I was going to trash it, but I decided to at least attempt to get the stain out first. I didn't expect to, but I was going to try before I threw it away. I placed it in the washer alone, with detergent and a generous amount of Clorox liquid bleach. It came out as white as it had been before. I was abs

The only thing handy to mop up the mess was a few of my bath towel close at hand. Two years ago I had just finished redecorating our bedroom and after months of searching had found the perfect quilt and shams for our bed. Not two days after I cleaned them and put them on our bed did my two-year-old daughter take a black PERMANENT marker from my nightstand and go to town on the bedspread, shams, nightstand, and other things in the room! When my huisband called to tell me about it I burst out laughing because it was too unbelievable! Sure enough, then I got home it was my worst nightmare come true. There was nothing I could do about the quilt and shams except buy new ones, everything that had a hard surface I could get most of the permanent marker off with a magic eraser. Lesson learned...no more permanent markers in in the bedroom!

The day I came home from the hospital with my and my husband's first baby, I aparently made a new mom mistake, and didn't secure my baby's diaper as well as it should've been. When I asked my husband to change the baby's "dirty" diaper, he picked him up, the diaper popped open, and needless to say, my husband's white t-shirt got a bit messy! lol We can laugh about it now, but I couldn't get the stain out of that poor t-shirt, and sadly, it had to get thrown out.

The worst stain I've had to deal with is black polish for lack of a better description rubbing off of my husband's laptop backpack onto his dress shirts. It took a while for me to figure out what was causing these unslghtly stains on the shirts he wore to the office, having a high level executive job it wasn't making a good impression on the senior management. Suffice to say once I figured out the cause he stopped using that backpack which was pity as it was very expensive and had a nice stylish design. By the way nothing I've tried has gotten these awful stains out so those shirts have become what we refer to as "home shirts".

The worst stain my son had this summer was grass stains. They were all over his clothes and they were very hard to get off. I decided to try a stain stick and low and behold it took all of the grass stains off of my son's clothing.

With two children only 18 months apart in age I constantly have messes. The one that is most memorable to me right now though is when we gave my youngest daughter pudding and she wanted to eat it herself (like her big sister). I would venture to bet that most of the pudding was actually on the floor, her clothes, her hair, etc and not in her mouth. It was definitely a disaster to clean up, but I guess you have to let them learn to eat on their own eventually.

My disadter happened with my son. He loves grape juice and when we drink wine, he thinks he is drinking it too by drinking the grape juice. Well this Thanksgiving he wanted to make the toast, which we do and wish everyone a great holiday. He made his toast and when he went to take a drink of his juice, he was trying to sit down at the same time. My sister was next to him and next thing you know, she was wearing the juice. She is not the most cheerful person, but we all got a huge laugh out of it.

It was the end of Junior High and during lunch I sat on a ketchup spill. I did not know I had sat on it and so I finished out the rest of my day with dried ketchup on my bottom. Needless to say it was in the worst area of my pants and when it was brought to my attention, I was so embarassed. I learned two things that day. 1. Always look before you sit down and 2. Ketchup was difficult to get out of tan pants, color bleach wasn't out then.

I did get the stain out at home later but maybe next time I should take a bib along?

A few weeks ago my mom was sorting out her Avon order and some stuff dripped on her white bedspread. I got the bright idea to scrub the stain with lizuid detergent and a RED towl. I didn't think the towel's color would rub off. Luckily the red stain that I left with the towel came out in the washing machine.

Being Swedish every year I host a midsummer party, one of the dishes I prepare is lingonberries, berries similar in taste and color to cranberries. The day of the party I had to work a morning shift so my husband volunteered to help set up and put out the food. My shift ran later than I had expected and by the time I got home the party had started and was in full swing. To my horror I saw my husband had used one of my best white table cloths for the buffet table and lingon berry sauce had already been spilled upon the cloth. I decided to push this out of my mind and enjoy the party instead of trying to remove all the dishes and replace the cloth. After the last guest had left I poured club soda on the spot, it worked bit, then I presoaked the cloth, worked a tiny bit. Over the next few days I pretreated and washed the cloth again, each time the stain was little less.

I love this! I laughed when I received this because I had just spilt a two liter bottle of Mountain Dew all over me! It must have fallen and I was unaware. I opened it up and was showered with the sticky substance and it covered me and my white tshirt. Uugh! I've found that it is very difficult to get soda pop out of my tshirts, especially when it is a darker drink.

My husband and I were talking and weren't paying attention to our son. Next thing I know I look back and he's fallen asleep and the chocolate ice cream was EVERYWHERE!!! It was all over him, the car seat, the back seat of my car, the floor and the window! That was quite the mess to clean up. To this day my son points to the stain in the back seat and tells me it's his chocolate ice cream!!

Several years ago, I used a Target grocery bag (plastic) to prevent my white dress from being stained by dirt on the bench outside the store while I was waiting for my friend to pick me up. But because it was a hot day and I sweat quite a bit, I ended up wearing small red target patterns on my bottom when my friend finally showed up. Lesson learned--it feels good to go green.

I wish I was telling a story that starred somebody else besides myself, but unfortunately I had a terrible accident last Thanksgiving at my Brother in law's house! He has white carpet in his living room and had just had it professionally cleaned before all the family showed up for the holiday. Welllll, I caught my heel on the edge of a throw rug in the kitchen while carrying not one, but TWO glasses of red wine! Down I went and the wine flew and splattered in what seemed like a MILLION drops all over the living room floor! I was mortified! I think my face was redder than the carpet! Luckily for me I have a very understanding brother in law who has 4 children and had obviously seen worse things happen. He directed me to his stash of carpet cleaners and bleach under the kitchen sink and before you know it we actually got it all up! Boy was I relieved! I'm not allowed to pass the wine now!

I have 2 stain stories. The first one is when I was 16 I was babysitting for a friend, while I was wearing white pants. She had a little 6 month old baby. My experience (back than) with babies was limited, but she left me with instructions. One of the duties was to feed the baby peas for lunch. So I did. The baby did not feel well, and the peas did not stay inside for long. And no, the baby did not throw up. Needless to say, I had to toss the white pants!

My second story also involves the color white & a baby. This time it was a white rug. (I have not worn white pants since!) My friend had a baby shower at her house-her first baby. She served red wine. I was only there for a few minutes, and guess what I spilled? I felt awful, but now that I have had 3 kids of my own, I know that the white rug did not last long!!!

My good friend was hosting a Christmas party, to which I had invited one of my good friends who lived in her neighborhood. My friends child happened to spill red juice all over my friends carpet and on the sleeve of a guest's white shirt. I was mortified! I ran to the laundry room where my friend keeps all her cleaning supplies. There must have been at least 50 cleaning products there! I grabbed the first thing I spotted that said "Oxy" on it (I think it was carpet cleaner). The stain disappeared from the carpet and shirt right away! I was amazed and since then have used that same product in my own home!

Why is it that grass always seems to be greener when it happens to be on the pant leg or knees of my sons blue jeans. For the longest time I couldn't figure out how to get the stains out. I tried stain treaters, pre-treating with extra detergent, extra washings, etc. Nothing was working until finally I got the answer. I called my mom. She told me to rub a little bit of sugar and water on the stain then wash. You would never believe it but it worked. Not one bit of green left on his pants. Thanks Mom! No more green jeans in my home anymore. And to the grass, the green is all yours.

When my daughter was about three, I was making spagetti sauce in the kitchen and she was in the family room watching Barney or so I thought. Realizing after about 30 minutes later that she had been really quiet, I went to investigate. That's when I discovered she had been painting the brand new Bernhardt sectional which was beige with tomato sauce. She had taken the cans I had thrown in the trash ( this was before recycling ) and was finger painting sauce out of the can on to the sofa. Fortunatly I had paid to have it protected with scotchguard and it all came right off.

My daughter tried really hard all day to keep her new clothes clean. She wouldn't even go outside to play with her cousins at a family gathering, but decided to "sit still" with the grown ups. Well, after I finally convinced her that we could go outside and still stay clean, she ran for the nearest chair, which also happened to be near where her cousins were "baking' , with mud, leaves, real juice, etc. Just as my little girl began to sit down, her cousin put one of her mud creations in the seat of the chair. Splat! Needless to say, between the sad little girl and the messy stain, I had my hands full the rest of the evening! It took 3 washings to get all of that dried in dirt out of her clothes.

at Monday, 17 November 2008 12:16by brandnewgirl
I actually collect old cotton tablecloths from the 1940's & 50's. When I find them at flea markets they are usually in pretty bad shape with a lot of staining. It sometimes takes days and multiple treatments, but I soak them in a boiling pot of water filled with baking soda and salt. Afterwards I launder them and iron them. Sometimes the stains only fade (coffee is a tough one and I usually have to apply some Clorax bleach) but by the time I'm done... they have been restored to a usable condition. They are so lovely and colorful and I always have plenty of tablecloths to choose from for the holidays!

With four kids, my house is often chaotic. My two-year old particularly loves to bother my nine-year old. The culmination of one long afternoon's teasing happened with my two-year old squeezing a box of chocolate drink all over my nine-year old's clothing. As I had to take care of an infant as well as get the other three to bed, the laundry was put on the back burner. When I finally got around to treating the stain, it had pretty well dried. I washed it in Clorox 2, though, and her clothes were as clean as they were before the stain. I wish it was as easy to get siblings to get along.

I walked back into the room and the poor thing was crying so hard I didn't have the heart to get mad at her. I just explained that she had to ask next time she wanted something to drink. We took off her outfit to wash it and thankfully Clorox did the trick. I had to laugh because after it was washed and dried she put the outfit back on and promptly asked if I could get her some juice.

Probably my worst stain was when I was wearing a white blouse and eating a hot dog. Sure enough, someone bumped into me and I got it all over the blouse. We were outside so there was no club soda to use, no stain sticks, just plain old water and a napkin. The blouse was ruined.

My worst stain has to be the time my son decided he wanted to wear his paint instead of painting with it. It was everywhere after just turning my back to grab some paper towels, lol....what can I say boys will be boys after all.

I don't know that I have one specific story about stains, but my 12 and 13 year old boys are horrible with white t-shirts. It never fails, we always have spaghetti when the kids are wearing white and sure enough, it ends up on the shirt. I've gotten to where I don't even buy them white things anymore because they end up ruined.

I grew heirloom tomatoes this summer. One day, I harvested a big crate of them. I picked up the crate and when I put it down, I had a big red stain across my favorite sweatshirt! The bottom tomatoes had gotten squished and run out the bottom of the crate! I poured Clorox on the shirt, threw it in the washing machine, and prayed! Clorox worked so well! My favorite sweatshirt is back to being white!

With 3 kids, ages 7, 4 &2....stains are an every day occurence at our house. The hardest to get out...any stain that happens when we are doing crafts. ie, marker, paint, play-doh. My advice, wipe off, spray with pretreatment and hope it comes out. If it doesn't it's not the end of the world....they are only little once!!

I had an ear infection several years ago, but at the time I didn't know what it was. Well earlier in the day I had eaten Cheetos for a snack on the way home from work. Right before dinner I had a severe case of vertigo and had to lay down for awhile. I became so nauseous from the spinning of the room I had to get up and make it to the bathroom. Wouldn't you know the first one I made it to was all white. I couldn't contain the contents of my stomach and it spewed out everywhere. When I was done every surface looked like a dreamsicle, especially my fluffy white rug. What a clean up job for me! Once I got myself together I rinsed off the rug as much as I could and thought about how I could possibly restore the rug. I used my regular laundry soap and Clorox bleach. What a life saver. The rug and everything else in the room once again looked picture perfect, not to mention sanitized!

We just bought a brand new rug for our office and were so excited about it! It was EXACTLY what we wanted. We didn't even have the rug for 24 hours when it got stained! Our dog is mostly indoors but he goes out to use the bathroom. Well, anyway, it had rained earlier in the day and my daughter took him out to play. He got super muddy outside and when my daughter brought him in the house, she forget to clean off his paws before letting him loose. He tracked that wet, sticky mud ALL OVER our new rug! (not to mention all over the rest of the house, too!!!) We had a difficult time getting all of the mud out of the carpet and rugs but it finally came out. That was probably the most stressful stain experience I've had in awhile!

We had my DH's family over for Christmas Dinner. It was our first meal at our dining room table. We just sat down to eat. My mother-in-law spilled her full cup of coffee. We plotted the spill and ate our meal. Apparently she was sitting where the table pads come together. I didn't know until I cleared the table, but the coffee had gone between the table pad seams. I was able to get the stain out of the linen table cloth but the finish on the table was ruined it that area.

One day a couple of weeks ago he comes home from hanging with frieds all day only to find out when he walks through the door not only doeshis shirt have pizza and salad dressing ains down the front but his new pants are covered in MUD due to an impromtu game of football with the friends. Having a child like my son has really made me a stain expert. I was able to remove all stains even the salad dressing (putting powder on oil spot really absorbs it back out of the clothes!)
So now that I am an expert at stain removal my son thinks everything is going to be ok "because mom can get it out)

Whe I got home I treated the stain w/ Clorox Bleach pen and washed the jeans with additional Clorox liquid Bleach.
I am happy to say that you can't tell at all that the baby had made a mess of her jeans. They are as white as when I bought them.

I made the mistake of forgetting we were painting that day in class. A bottle of black tempera paint got knocked over right onto my dress. I drenched my dress with water from the classroom sink and scrubbed and scrubbed that night when I got home to try and remove it. I finally got the stain light enough to blend in with the dress, but I knew that stain was there everytime I wore it

A older friend needed some lace curtains for her newly painted bedroom. I knew that I had some older ones that I hadn't used in years. I dug them out of the bottom of a box, and was disappointed to see that they were really diggy. I was afraid that they wouldn't look good enough to give to her. I soaked them in a light solution of Clorox. I was surprised at how white and bright they turned out. I took great pride in taking them to her.

I remember after my great grama passed away, she had the most beautiful linens that she had left to me that desperately needed to be laundered. My grama always told me to use just a bit of Clorox on the stain and then let sit. Then fill up the washer with hot water and then put your Clorox in and launder on delicate cycle. Her linens came out so beautifully! Thank you Clorox.

One more thing I best remember is one time my grama stepped on a nail in our yard, and I remember her sitting on the side of the sink with her foot in a Clorox bath disinfecting her foot. My grama always swore by her Clorox. It is what is trusted by our family! Thank you Clorox!

163"Strawberry Paint"
at Monday, 17 November 2008 15:34by mamaksa
I spent three years trying to get my daughter to eat more fruits and vegetables. I snuck them into pancakes, cereal...even icecream. No matter what they were in - she always knew and refused to eat it! I decided a trip to pick strawberries herself to see how they grew and see other kids eating them would help convince her that fruits were not so bad afterall. We spent a wonderful day picking strawberries as a family. Two large baskets full of strawberries later, we returned home to make shortcake. I set the strawberries, shortcake, and whipped cream on the table and went to call my husband and other daughter to the table for dessert making. As we entered the dining room and looked at the table, we gasped in unison. My fruit-hating daughter had used the strawberries to "paint" our tablecloth and chairs. I worked on those stains for days... and she stil won't eat strawb

Growing up, I have always loved cooking for my family. I remember one dinner a few years ago that I was so excited to prepare because I was making spaghetti with a sauce from scratch. It all came out great and as I was walking the plate of spaghetti to the table, my brother came rushing through the kitchen door and the plate brushed against my dress causing spaghetti sauce everywhere. I was so mortified and the stain was huge. We saved the dinner, but my stain took a long time to get out and I am always reminded of the stain with my dress.

Grease stains are the worst and I mean food grease stains. Butter, cooking oil, grease from sausage or bacon. Those are the clothes stains that are impossible to treat, especially if they are on colored clothes. If they happen to be on a solid white item, you can just bleach the item, but colored items, that's another story.

I made a huge mistake and fixed spagetti for dinner during one of those independent moments. She was wearing a brand new outfit that day and got spagetti sauce ALL over it, she had tipped her plate into her lap. There was NO getting that stain out. In fact, I've tried several stain remedies and haven't found anything to get spagetti sauce out!

I always manage to spill something on my shirts, so when the Tide stain sticks came out I bought one and put it in my purse. A few weeks later, I took my friend out to lunch at a Thai restaurant. We tried a variety of things, one being red chicken curry. It was tasty and yes, I got some spots on my shirt, so I cleaned them with my Tide stain stick while my friend watched. I had some curry left so I had it boxed up to take home. My friend and I walked to her car and since we had brought separate cars, I decided to walk on to my car. Everything was fine until I tried to dig out my keys. I had to juggle the box and my purse ,the box wound up in a strange angle. The lovely curry sauce leaked all over my blouse!! Just then, my friend pulled up in her car to talk and died laughing as she had seen how hard I had worked on those tiny spots! I did treat that huge stain, I got it out!

The first year my husband and I were married, we spent Easter with my family. As always, my mom prepared more than enough food and the house looked amazing. My husband was a little nervous about his first holiday dinner as a son-in-law and the fancy tableware and cloth napkins didn't help matters. As dinner progressed, I could see he was starting to relax. The next thing I know he was reaching for the large bowl of pickled beets (i.e. bright purple) and before I could tell him to be careful, one of the beets slid off the serving spoon and onto the heirloom tablecloth! My mom told him not to worry about it, but the glaring purple circle was hard to miss. It's not an official holiday in our house without reminding my husband of that first Easter dinner!

My daughter is a messy eater, just like her father. I used to never buy her white shirts or the expensive brand clothes that I love so much. I gave in and bought her a shirt one day. It was white with red strawberries on it. She had the shirt on for 10 min before she managed to get black permanent marker on it. I knew that I could not wash the shirt in the washer with Clorox because the red would bleed. I went and bought a Clorox pen to use on it. It worked wonders!! I was so impressed that I bought her a white dress to wear this Christmas. I am no longer afraid of her staining her white clothes!

I tried and tried to get the hard water stains and lime scale out of my cat's water bowl. I used the vinegar trick but it did not remove all the heavy buildup even after sitting several days with vinegar in it and scrubbing the dish. I even heated the vinegar as the water dish has a heating element in it. Finally, I tried Clorox bleach and it took the stain and lime scale right out.

Back then they made us wear white pants and shirts to work. I had just made a chocolate shake for a customer and was turning around to give it to them when I ran into a co-worker. I have a 13 year old son who is special needs and we avoid light colors for him at all costs due to his coordinations disorder he is always spilling something or getting something on him. He went to an art class last spring and they did a painting project he came home with paint all over from his face to his shoes. it looked like some one had thrown paint at him. but in reality he had spilt it on himself and tried to clean up after himself. Well lets just say the entire outfit he was wearing that day got tossed out right down to his socks.

I get stains all the time from my 3 little stain makers. I had a dinner for my mom's birthday and gave the kids water to drink, Little did I know that the 5 year old got out the paint set and painted on an antique doilly. I was able to make a Clorox Soution and take all of that paint out and reset the doilly pattern. Also, I can't live without Clorox for the simple reason it disinfects my surfaces and keeps illness away. The kids bring all sorts of stuff home from school- colds, dirt, germs, etc.

Last Thanksgiving, we sat down to eat and she went to put the first bite of food in her mouth (which included cranberry sauce!!) and half the bite plopped on her shirt because she was laughing at my step-dad who was picking on my son! We always carry an extra shirt for her because she is famous for spills! So she changed her shirt and the next thing I knew, she was helping my Mom bring the pies to the table to cut them and she slipped on my Mom's linoleum floor (it was feshly mopped) and she WORE one entire chocolate pie! I keep teasing her that we are going to have to buy her an adult bib for her to wear at every meal! This year she is in advanced art and you can only imagine I should own stock in Clorox with as much as I buy! Its a good thing Clorox is not as expensive as gas!

One of my twin boys got a stain on his shirt from school that I thought would never get out. I am not sure exactly what it was, but I think it was from spaghetti. I tried using the tide stain stick to go, and when that ran out, I used regular liquid detergent. It took me about a week to get the stain out, but I finally did it. Always pre-treat stains as soon as possible.

I've used the Tide Clorox pen for many a stains! My hubby got permanent marker on one of his favorite white t-shirts and the stain came right out!

I use the Clorox Bleach Pen for on the go stains to help remove them. It's a live saver especially with a 2 year old.

My husband had his company picnic recently and they had cherry snowcones. My five year old daughter asked to get one as we were leaving the picnic. I wanted her to finish it before getting in the car because I just knew what was going to happen if she didn't finish it before leaving. Sure enough I was right. Not even five minutes after leaving did she spill the red snowcone all over her shirt in the car. I just knew that wasn't going to come out. But thank heavens it washed out with stain remover. What a relief!!!

My sister was using paint to make a hand print border around her 4 year old twins' bedroom. The girls got into the pain and got it on the carpet. She had them help clean it up with bucket of water and scrub brushes. As one of the got on her hands and knees and started to scrub up the mess she started singing "Sing sweet nightingale..." We about busted a gut laughing. This is the song Cinderella sings in the Disney movie as she scrubs the floor. This was the girls favorite movie at the time.

I would have to say that when my daughter cut her foot open and had to get 20 stitches and there was blood all over her clothes and the carpet would have to be my best,or as I say "worst" stain accident!
