Social issues often trump academic issues when your child is having a problem in school. Parents need to be informed and ready to deal with complex social problems for students of all ages. Share information about handling peer pressure, avoiding bullies, teachering your child not to be a bystander, encouraging healthy social interaction, and dealing with cliques.

Although I wish I could say that ALL the kids are great with each other and get along, sometimes there are kids that just don't "click". Ryan wants to be friends with everyone and gets really upset if someone doesn't "like" him.

I had to explain that everyone is different and if someone doesn't make you feel good about yourself or you don't feel good around them, then avoid them, just ignore them and find the people that do make you feel good.

I also have taught him that if a child is sitting alone, it may be because they are shy and a good way to make friends is just to walk up and introduce yourself and tell a joke (he's such a clown- he loves it).
