What year did you start blogging? 2003

Other than blogging and being a mother, do you work?  Yes, I’m a nurse, and I work full-time.

Why did you start your blog?  I’ve always liked to write, and I had various and assorted “home pages” on the Internet, but they were missing the interaction I craved. I saw something about blogs on the news one day, and I thought, “I could do that.” So, I opened a Blogger account, wrote something, and to my surprise, someone read it.

What advice do you have for those starting out?  Just write. Write because you like it, share your story.  Be consistent in what you do, and genuinely interact with others, no matter what your goals are.

Name a few challenges you see or have experienced in the blogosphere.  Things have changed a great deal since I began blogging (geezer alert). Some of the changes have been good such as new and better technology, more opportunities to be paid for your work and a more mainstream awareness of blogs.  However, I feel like we’ve lost valuable community and interaction somewhere in there. Social media, such as Twitter and Facebook have changed how people use blogs, and that’s great, but I still feel like there’s something missing.

Blogging can also become more challenging as your kids get older; it’s important to make sure you’re writing your story and not theirs.

What are your favorite and least favorite part(s) about blogging?  My favorite part of blogging is the interaction with people both near and far. There’s always someone to talk to, or who can identify with what you’ve written or are interested in. My least favorite part of blogging is getting stuck, and not being able to write anything.  Or, worse yet, having things to write, and not having the time to write it.

What is the wackiest opportunity you have gotten since you started your blog?  That would have to be the wolf urine deer repellant PR pitch.

What are your top three blogging tips?

  1. Just write.
  2. Be yourself, and act like your mother taught you to act.
  3. Keep up with what’s going on around you (trends, technology) and decide how, or if you can use them.

What are you hoping will happen for you and your blog within the next year?  I’m really trying to make an effort to write more consistently, and I want to contribute to making the community more like it used to be by interacting and sharing stories. If doing that leads to other benefits, then all the better!
