Your name: Stefani Tolson
Your Twitter name: @mommye
Your blog: Mom’s Blog @ Mommy Enterprises
What year did you start blogging? I started blogging in 2004.
In addition to blogging and being a mother, what other jobs do you have? I don’t work outside the home, but I do have a ton of jobs at home. I LOVE to cook so I am always in the kitchen making some type of dish for the family. I own a network of websites and blogs so when I am not spending time with the family I’m working on my computer.
Why did you start your blog? I actually started my blog on Mommy Enterprises as a way to keep track of my daughter’s first moments because I wasn’t too good at keeping up on my kid’s baby books. I loved the concept of blogging and have since became a full time blogger who owns multiple blogs.
What advice do you have for those starting out? For those that are serious about blogging, be sure to get a good domain and your own hosting when starting a blog. There are free blogging platforms out there, but eventually you will want to use your own domain and own your own content and moving your content isn’t always easy.
Name a few challenges you see or have experienced in the blogosphere. Sometimes I can get writer’s block when it comes to blogging, but usually a break from the computer can help get me back on track.
What are your favorite and least favorite part(s) about blogging? My favorite things about blogging is that I am able to publish my own thoughts and opinions and have them read by others that want to hear what I have to say. My least favorite part is deadlines, but sometimes I tend to work better under pressure.
What is the wackiest opportunity you have received since you started your blog? A few years ago I received a request to review a female urination device for those that have to go, on the go!
What are your three top blogging tips.
- Make sure to update your blog as often as possible, but don’t overdo it. I suggest posting no more than 3 to 4 times per day unless you have a deals/bargains type of blog where more posts is better.
- If you have a lifestyle/parenting niche blog, be sure to include personal posts. Readers like to get to know the person behind the blog.
- Don’t give up when you have writer’s block. Take a break and wait until you have the motivation to write again.
What are you hoping will happen for you and your blog within the next year? I’m hoping to increase my traffic, increase my readers and of course increase my income.
